Playing to a capacity crowd in Alumni Hall in the HUB, the two celtic-rock bands put on an excellent show. The crowd got really into Flogging Molly in particular, not surprising as they were the headliner, crowdsurfing and moshing. Again, having a photo pass was clutch, getting me inside the barricade and within 2 feet of the performers. That had a downside though, foolish me forgot earplugs and so now I’m pretty much deaf, but that’s ok. Check out the rest of the keepers below.

I don’t do a lot of portrait photography normally, which is why I was excited to get some studio time in tonight with the Photography Club at Penn State. This here is Andy Colwell, one of my good friends and President of our little club. He asked me to take a few headshots for some press credentials he was having made, but this appeared, most likely after I made some stupid joke (that happens a lot).

I also got to take some shots of my friend Chloe Alpert doing her juggling wizardry. Chloe and I got to know each other through THON, we were both Captains (myself on the Technology Committee, and Chloe doing Public Relations). Chloe’s an awesome graphic designer and an excellent photog in addition to being able to throw multiple things in the air without dropping them.

Anywho, I had fun this evening. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some more time in there.

State College-based band Go Go Gadget performs during the final four hours of THON 2010. THON, short for the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. Every year, students from all Penn State Campuses converge on the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, PA, for a 46-hour no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon. The event benefits the Four Diamonds Fund, and organization based at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, and provides children with pediatric cancer outstanding emotional and financial support.

The State Theatre is one of my favorite venues to shoot at. Not only is it a really nice theater in general, but when you have a press pass you get to shoot for the entire show, and you can go wherever you want in the seating area. This allows for a wide variety of shots to occur. The band was also quite good. Click here to read the review posted on Onward State that includes my photo credit.

I got to photograph Ben Stein this evening for Onward State. He was giving a lecture at Penn State as part of the Distinguished Speak Series. I found him to be a very engaging person who made a point to get names from everyone at the press conference (granted that was only like 8 people). Too bad I got kicked out of the actual lecture after 5 minutes (press passes, whatchagonnado?) otherwise I’d most likely have posted something from his actual speech. But he was behind a podium, so perhaps not… we’ll never know.

On Saturday night I went on assignment to the Capitol Steps show at the State Theatre in downtown State College, PA. I was one of the only people there under the age of 40, but I still found the show to be extremely entertaining. The Capitol Steps is a political comedy troupe that is made up of former Congressional staffers and they lampoon current political figures. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out who’s being portrayed in this photo.

This is Lauren. Lauren is Sophomore at Penn State and a member of the Morale Committee for the Penn State Dance Marathon. I myself am a Technology Captain for THON. Lauren is a pediatric cancer survivor and spoke about her experiences fighting cancer and how THON helped her at the Mr. and Mrs. THON Pageant. I found her story to be very inspirational and moving and reminded me why I put so much time into the philanthropy.

This was such a serendipitous picture. While flying home from the Capital One Bowl with the Penn State Blue Band, I noticed the amazing sunrise out the window. I was in an exit row aisle seat, and had to reach over my two buddies to get my camera into the window. A few exposure adjustments later, I got this.

My family got a new puppy in late november. This was the first time I got to see him since I had been away at school. He’s a liver-colored Brittany Spaniel, which we got from Maine from some prestigious breeder, or something. I don’t know, all I know is that he’s adorable. Happy Christmas!

Penn State was blessed with several inches of snow last night. The snow fell so peacefully it was amazing. I couldn’t no go out and take a few pictures. This one was my favorite. I converted it to black and white, because I fell like snow shots always seem to look better in B&W, not really sure why.
